Adonai García
“ Urban mobility in the Dominican Republic gets better through digital tools built by the people who live it every day.
Background
Adonai García is a Dominican civil engineer specializing in sustainable urban mobility, traffic engineering, and city-scale technology. He combines more than nine years of public and private sector experience with graduate training at York University in Canada and two master’s degrees in Spain, and has led ViaTechLabs and its flagship product, MalParqueao RD, since 2019.
His career began at J.G. Cajiao & Associates, where he led the field surveys for the Dominican Republic’s first Sustainable Mobility Plan in Santiago de los Caballeros. At INTRANT (the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport), he directed the optimization of every signalized intersection in Santo Domingo and across other provinces of the country, was part of the technical team behind the implementation of the city’s first official bicycle lane, and served as institutional spokesperson before the Senate, radio, and television — translating technical projects into language accessible to citizens.
His graduate work at York University allowed him to deepen his applied research practice, where he received the 2024 Ron Rice Award for best paper at the Canadian Transportation Research Forum and chaired the university’s Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) chapter. His thesis at ViaTechLabs is straightforward: change in urban mobility won’t come from more bureaucracy or shelved studies — it will come from software built together with the people who experience the problem.
